I discovered the quote which I heard at the Air show was this by Father Dennis O'Brien Sergeant USMC.

It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the Soldier, not the poet,
Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer,
Who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the Soldier, not the lawyer,
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the Soldier, who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.

I must assert that it does lack humility for a member of the armed forces to ladle such praise upon the armed forces. A large portion of that which I hear comes from service members and their families. That does not reflect the spirit of sacrifice which should be the reason of serving ones nation.
